I've know for a while now that my car has a recall on it. Actually every car fitted with the N63 engine is being recalled for some major checking. The cars recalled include 5 series, 6, 7, X5 and X6. All models produced between 2008-2013.

I've already had a bank of fuel injectors replaced and that was an issue I had a while back. Prior to that my car didn't feel like it was running right and actually stalled once on startup. But so far so good.

This "care package" includes potential replacement of the fuel injectors, mass airflow sensors, battery, crankcase vent lines, fuel pressure sensor, the engine's vacuum pump and last, but certainly not least, replacement of the timing chain. I am most worried about a timing chain issue. I was on the phone with a trusted friend and BMW certified tech and he explained to me that all they're going to do is check the tension because there have been a few reports of the timing chain being loose. As with all serious DEALER work I am concerned that my car will not come back the same. Fortunately my dad knows one of the master techs at the dealer he frequents. He has known the guy for nearly 20 years. If my anal retentive father trusts him than I don't have anything to worry about. plus they're going to give me a loaner of equal value to my car so this will be interesting. Maybe I can squeeze my into a new 335 for a few days... Anyway I digress. I will keep oppo updated and maybe a quick oppo fastest car in the world review.

And here I was thinking that our X5 had been built by Satan himself. Thanks BMW.

Well if your x5 has the 4.4 v8 then yes. I've heard some horror stories in the past few weeks from people on forums and a facebook page I'm apart of.

there are more things that don't work in our car, than do work. I think it's now decided that it's fed up with engine oil and only going to run on leprechaun tears.

I heard for the N63 to be problem free, it needs to run on Fabergé eggs and bald eagle heads.

My father just had this completed on his 2011 x5 50i. He said that everything seems fine, but he had a rental for 6 weeks. If you have any questions I have a copy of the invoice.

6 weeks??? my buddy said it shouldn't be more than a week or 5 days . Was your dads car having any issues prior to that service?

Yea! After two weeks they kept telling him it would be done the following Monday every Friday! 3 weeks before the recall he had it in reporting reduced power, reduced fuel econ, and engine noise, they told him it was nothing...3 weeks later they replaced everything but the bottom end.

wow thats crazy, everything ok after that? My car seems very normal now and I haven't been hearing any strange noises or a reduction in power. I did just add a quart of oil to my car though. Not sure yet, like I said ill keep you guys updated, so far I drop my car off next Saturday. Thanks for the input!

He let it go longer than he should have probably. It was also completed at a dealer that I won't use because of past experience(s) and it was their first car with the recall so that probably had something to do with it. They said that it took a while to get parts, but this is 2015 it can't take that long right?
